Shanghai Indie Folk is actually a popular genre with acts Mushroom Red and Cover People dominating the Douban stats. Labels Dew 11 and Music Fever also heavily favour folk.
The new label and their first artists seem to fit the main mode of Shanghai indie folk as a kind of diy version of mainstream pop songs. Folk music is usually characterized by things like traditional local culture, realistic storytelling, humour standing in for humanity during hard times, imperfect but human voices and strong personalities.
